Amira Ghebranious, from Rosebank College, inspired audiences with the presentation of  her Masters research on teacher-student wellbeing interactions and trauma-informed practices at the NSW Teachers' Guild Research Conference on Saturday, 23 August.

Amira shared her thorough and informative UNSW Masters of Research focus with teachers and university academics, demonstrating how educators can strengthen their professional capacity to both nurture and challenge students from trauma backgrounds. Her study also examines the impact on teacher attitude and self-efficacy, which have broad-reaching implications for teacher attrition and delivery of the quality professional development in schools.

The NSW Teachers’ Guild Conference celebrated dynamic partnerships between school educators and universities - spanning whole-school initiatives to individual research projects.

Amira’s work illuminates powerful strategies for supporting at-risk students through deeper understanding, while upholding high expectations that foster growth and the need for innovative support teachers.

Embodying the spirit of lifelong learning, earlier this year Amira also undertook Rosebank College's Mental Health First Aid training, with its comprehensive approach to student wellbeing.

"The course is aimed at  equipping teachers and parents with practical skills to assist young people experiencing mental health challenges. I gained valuable tools for supporting young people effectively, while also learning essential self-care strategies for maintaining my own wellbeing, as an educational practitioner."

With warmth, humility and authentic care for both colleagues and students, Amira presented a compelling vision for enhanced trauma-informed practices in schools.

This inspiring research demonstrates how practitioner inquiry, enriched by academic excellence, creates evidence-based breakthroughs that transform outcomes for our most vulnerable learners.
