Guiding Greatness
Jessica Fallone's Passion for Empowering Educators and Elevating Excellence
What is your role?
At the College, I am the Coordinator of Accreditation and Professional Practice, a role I have held since 2022. In this position, I support teachers at various career stages in their accreditation journey, providing guidance on professional standards and evidence collection. A significant aspect of this role is working with teachers on a personal level—building positive relationships and rapport to ensure they feel supported and confident throughout the accreditation process. I strive to create a collaborative and reflective environment where teachers can engage in meaningful discussions about their practice, seek constructive feedback and develop as reflective practitioners in all their lessons. Whether I am guiding early career teachers or assisting those pursuing Highly Accomplished or Lead accreditation, I am committed to fostering professional growth and excellence in teaching.
What are you pursuing outside of your normal role at the College?
Beyond my day-to-day responsibilities, I am actively involved in curriculum development and assessment at a state level. This includes my various appointments as a committee member and assessor for both the PDHPE and CAFS HSC Examinations, where I contribute to shaping rigorous assessment materials, as well as my role as a writer and assessor for examinations and assessment tasks with other institutions. Additionally, I have been a senior marker and professional leader for the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN).
What made you choose to pursue this?
My passion for teacher development, assessment integrity and curriculum design led me to these roles. I value the opportunity to support teachers in refining their practice while also ensuring that students experience fair, consistent and meaningful assessment. My experience as a Highly Accomplished Teacher, combined with my expertise in marking and assessment, naturally aligned with my interest in shaping best practices in teaching, learning and accreditation.
What personal and professional satisfaction does your area of expertise bring you?
Personally, I find great fulfillment in mentoring and supporting teachers, helping them build confidence and clarity in their professional journey. Seeing teachers develop their skills, gain accreditation and enhance student learning outcomes is incredibly rewarding. Professionally, my involvement in state-level assessment and curriculum committees allows me to contribute to high-quality assessment standards, ensuring that students are assessed fairly and consistently.
How do/did Critical Thinking skills help you in this work?
Critical thinking is essential in all aspects of my work, from evaluating evidence for accreditation applications to ensuring consistency in assessment marking and exam writing. In my role, I need to analyse data, interpret policies and provide constructive feedback to both teachers and students. Engaging in exam writing and assessment development requires the ability to think logically, identify patterns and maintain high standards of rigour and fairness.
And lastly, what are you reading currently?
I’ve just finished Freda McFadden’s Housemaid series, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I love immersing myself in thrillers filled with plot twists and suspense—there’s something captivating about trying to unravel the mystery before the big reveal.
