Learning that engages and excites

At Rosebank, innovative learning is a natural outcome of our Learning Framework. Through everyday application, students are integrating their experiences across their courses, however several of our Middle School Programs focus more specifically on integrated learning and project-based learning:

This program is designed to enable Year 7 students to make connections across the traditional curriculum areas of English, History and Geography and to establish critical thinking skills.

Students develop an understanding of their learning styles, strengths, interests and strategies to become more effective learners. Students undertake practical experiences, such as field work and site studies, and participate in a variety of excursions and incursions.

Through an emphasis on cooperative, self-directed learning and thinking skills, students develop the ability to effectively transform knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their place in the world.

STEM, the integration of Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology, is becoming even more important for students in their everyday life in our contemporary world.

The ability to understand and apply data, and develop solutions to complex problems, will be important life skills as our students leave secondary education.

Year 8 students complete a STEM project, with a different theme each year, creating greater context and links to real world applications.

The annual Festival of Creative Spirit (FoCS) is a week-long event for Years 7 and 8 students. This initiative is focused on providing an opportunity for students to explore and experiment with critical thinking, creativity skills and aesthetic awareness in practical workshop experiences.

Different activities are planned each year such as digital film making, robotics, forensic investigations, product and advertising design, and creative writing workshops.

Through project-based learning, students engage with a driving question that leads them through the process of DISCOVER, CREATE and SHARE. By sharing what they have learned throughout the week, students become more aware of who they are as learners and how they can impact the world around them.
